Telos

Have you ever read about those strange cultures that live in close proximity with extended families and share the daily toils of life together. While admittedly idealizng the positive aspects of such living, I find the idea of close connection a cozy choice. Yet I am hundreds, in some cases thousands of miles away from friends and family. Hopefully "Telos" will erase the miles.

Chivalry

I admire noble people. And not just Christians. People who live by a code, especially if it is a noble code. People in the military, martial artists, there is something about being disciplined.

One of my favorite noble people is Don Quixote. He's an idealist and nuts but still noble. He wants to right all wrongs in the world. And he wants to do it for the honor of his fair lady. She is actually a prostitute but he loves her as if she were royalty.

I think I am afraid of discipline lest it should turn to legalism. But that is untrue and unhelpful. Do you know other noble people?

I agree with you...it's too bad that chivalry is a dying way of life. I love to see when guys are still that way towards their significant others; even seeing something as simple as a guy opening a door for a lady is a rarity. Sad to say, I know few guys still like that.

Sir Rob,

Yeah, the tendency seems to be to keep ladies as long as they make you look good or feel good.

But then Don Quixote: What does he want from her. Only the privilege of fighting the fierce enemy for her honor. Honoring her in victory, leaning on her in defeat.

Godly and Chivalrous values are not reenforced in our world. Sometimes not even in church.

Maybe I should get a huge sword to remind me to be chivalrous

Rob, i love your photography

I agree - Don Quixote exhibits the true spirit of chivalry. H didn't even have to get anything out of the deal and he would've been satisfied. I am saddened by the fact that I find myself often unable to live up to Quixote's standards.

Huge sword - sounds good! Or, just watch Braveheart a couple of times. :)

And, thanks for the compliment by the way!

Your hero dude reminds me of the story of Hosea... Now there is a great story!

Interesting comparison. A contrast: Don Quixote truly believed she was a fair maden and treated her as such. Hosea knew Gomer was a prostitute yet he still married her and was faithful to her. Nobility (or nievity)pales in light of grace.

Regarding the naked thing...yeah that is a funny mental image...or disturbing rather. Unless it was a closed casket.
